Joint letter
Below is the text of the letter sent by the regional presidents of Caccia Pesca Ambiente, Federcaccia and the Sicilian Hunting Federation to Luca Sammartino, councilor for Agriculture of the Sicilian region: “The undersigned Hunting Associations, present in the Sicilian territory, having, as stakeholders of the hunting world, very much at heart about the preparation of the next Wildlife Plan, ask those in question to be able to have detailed information on the current state of the process of the Plan".
The progress of the works
“Since many months have passed since we were certain that the drafting of the new Wildlife Hunting Plan had been entrusted to ISPRA and not having had, to date, any news on the progress of the work, we believe it is necessary to ask for information regarding the Bodies in address. We are also keen to know what the contents of a possible guideline document for wildlife and hunting planning provided by the Region to ISPRA are and in any case the strategic elements that the new Plan will have to satisfy".
The requirements incurred by the plan
Already the last Plan has not satisfied the Sicilian hunters at all in some decisions. Just to mention one, the most striking, when the Plan was subjected to prescriptions, limitations and prohibitions due to the adoption of DDG 442/2012 which, contrary to what happens in all the other regions of Italy, prohibits the possibility of being able to practice hunting activity within numerous Natura 2000 sites, only for the fact that for those sites it was not possible to carry out the impact assessment, in good time, within the scope of the hunting wildlife plan”.
Huge damage to hunting
“All this because our category, unfortunately, is not taken into due consideration and indeed often is ignored and has to suffer unfortunate choices that cause enormous damage to hunting activity, to the management of wildlife and also to the wider environment. general. Believing that we are in a position to also be able to make a contribution of a technical-scientific nature, which could be useful for the drafting of the new Plan in question, with this note we kindly ask you to keep us informed and to organize periodic meetings for a desirable shared document processing process” (source: FIDC).
