Hare monitoring
Thanks to the positive role played by hunters, a jump in the species of the virus has been discovered in Sicily Myxomatosis. As part of the monitoring project of the Italian hare (Lepus corsicanus) in Sicily promoted by the Regional Council of the Federcaccia and the national Federcaccia, the first species "leap" (spillover) of the Myxomatosis virus (MYXV) was ascertained, from the rabbit wild to the Italian hare (a male taken in 2018 in the province of Agrigento).
The collaboration of FIDC
The work, in which Valter Trocchi of the Faunistic and Agro-Environmental Studies and Research Office of Federcaccia also collaborated, has just been published in the prestigious international scientific journal Viruses, 2024, 16, 437.
Scientific recognition
Once again, the positive role played by hunters as "environmental sentinels" active in the protection of wildlife and the community must be underlined by the recognition of the international scientific community (source: FIDC).
