Containment and monitoring
In South Sardinia the alarm is back for the damage caused to crops and agricultural structures by wild fauna. In a territory already struggling with waves of drought and water crisis, without an intervention to stem the phenomenon of damage caused by wild boars, coypus, crows the situation for agriculture becomes even more worrying, claims Coldiretti Cagliari which relaunches its request to implement timely measures starting from the provincial containment and monitoring plans, shared with farmers, breeders, Prefectures, Municipalities and the Region.
No more waiting
Last year, breeders and farmers from all over the island took to the streets, mobilized by Coldiretti in sit-ins and round tables activated with prefects and institutions. "We can no longer wait - explains Giorgio Demurtas, president of Coldiretti Cagliari, in a note - crops are devastated daily and containment plans are often insufficient or too bureaucratic: it is essential to simplify procedures and activate territorial operational teams, involving producers and local administrations directly. It is urgent to create a preventive territorial pact, less expensive and much more effective than late compensation, capable of restoring serenity to the fields and safety on the streets".
Serious damage for everyone
Giuseppe Casu, director of Coldiretti Cagliari, also sends a clear message: "we are receiving numerous reports from the territories regarding the damage caused by wild fauna. These are species that have now exceeded safety limits, causing serious damage not only to agricultural companies, but also to civil society. It is necessary to restore a balance that, in many cases, has failed", he concludes.
