A new beginning
If there's a soundtrack that perfectly complements Stefano Castellani 's latest reflection on his blog , it's definitely "Finalmente tu." The song with which Fiorello debuted at Sanremo way back in 1995 borrows the adverb with which the Roman hunter, always a huge follower on social media, has titled his thoughts these days as the new hunting season approaches. As always, Castellani provided more than one insight: " Here we are, finally, at the threshold of a new hunting season. Summer is now behind us and autumn is almost here! It's been a long, long summer, hotter than ever, and it's put everyone to the test, even those who eagerly await it every year. Like every year, we've passed the time training; dogs, pigeons, and decoys, it doesn't matter! For a Hunter, hunting never ends; we are always Hunters, we are at heart. There's simply a time when we can hunt and a time when it's right to stop and allow wildlife to reproduce ."
A busy summer
The wait, however, hasn't been easy: " It's been a politically charged summer, where the 'shooter' bill (as many have called it) has dominated the news, sparking an unprecedented media attack on our league! We've defended ourselves, held our ground, attacked when necessary, responding to all the falsehoods fed to the masses (remember the beach hunt?); we've figured out who's on our side and who's not, who's in it for convenience and who's out of self-interest. We've learned many things. It's been a summer where the wolf has reminded us for the umpteenth time that he's a "wolf" and that perhaps the time has come to tackle the problem seriously; the issue of management has been addressed several times, and we've tried several times to make it clear that coexistence is possible, but that it must be man who dictates its rules! Management doesn't mean extermination. It's been a summer where they confirmed to us that in a few years we'll probably no longer be able to use lead and will therefore have to familiarize ourselves with other leagues." True? Not true? I don't know, this certainly won't extinguish the fire of tradition that each of us carries in our hearts. As usual, we will adapt and continue to carry Diana's name high; new ideas, new challenges, a new beginning.
Everything happened
A few months have passed, but it can't be said that there has been a dead calm in the hunting world: " So much has happened, and we could stay here for hours! How can we not talk about the pre-openings? And all those appeals filed with the Regional Administrative Court and lost by our neighbors? And the referendum? And the swine fever? Like every year, we've seen so much, more or less good, but we're still here, "few but good" indeed! We've grown compared to previous years, a clear sign that young people are approaching this wonderful world. What can I say, guys, here we are finally! Here's the new season! There are only a few days left. Enjoy it and don't think about numbers, don't let your days be dictated by the bag. Hunting cannot be reduced to numbers; take what nature offers you and do it with awareness and respect. Respect for older people, for other hunters, but above all respect for the animals you always kill: value them in the kitchen, and honor them as they should if you have any. The intention of sharing your bag on social media! It's not the "best result" that's good, it's the one who does what they can with quality. Always collect the shell casings! A plastic bottle or a snack wrapper can belong to anyone; a shell casing is ours, it's our signature: let's avoid leaving it where we don't want it. Well, I could write for hours, but I can't... I can only wish you the best for the season that's about to begin. Keep your head on your shoulders and look to the sky; in a few days we'll be back to talking about migration! Here we go.
