Alarming situation
The Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Piedmont, Liguria and Valle d'Aosta has published the new bulletin relating to the African swine fever, updated to May 17, 2026: well, there is no good news in Liguria, as 13 new wild boars tested positive for the virus have been recorded in this region, while fortunately none have been recorded in Piedmont.
Pig farms
The total number of positive cases in wild boars has risen to 2.111. Piedmont remains unchanged at 810, while Liguria has risen to 1.301. Outbreaks in pig farms remain stable at 10. No new positive cases have been observed in wild boars in Piedmont. The total in the region remains stable at 810.
Municipalities involved
In Liguria, thirteen new positive cases have been detected in wild boars: eight in the province of Genoa, four in Genoa (288 in total), four in Zoagli (eight); five in the province of Savona, four in Piana Crixia (nine), one in Sassello (78). The total in the region rises to 1.311 cases. The number of municipalities in which at least one positive case of African Swine Fever has been observed remains at 197.
