Cases on the rise
The latest update from the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Piedmont, Liguria and Valle d'Aosta on the 8th February 2026 refers to African swine fever within the jurisdiction. The total number of positive cases in wild boars has risen to 2.014. The number has risen to 801 in Piedmont and 1.213 in Liguria. Outbreaks in pig farms remain stable at 9.
The new positives
In Piedmont, a new positive case was observed in wild boars in the province of Alessandria in Morbello (40 in total). The total in the region rises to 801 cases. In Liguria, five new positive cases were found in wild boars: four in the province of Genoa, three in Rapallo (fourteen), one in Serra Riccò (36), one in the province of La Spezia in Rocchetta di Vara (10). The total in the region rises to 1.213 cases.
High alert
The number of municipalities with at least one positive case of African Swine Fever remains unchanged at 190. This is, as always, a valuable update that highlights how high the alert must remain to ensure we are prepared for any eventuality.
