The two appellants
There's no peace for the Italian hunting calendars, and no season holds up, just like the region itself. Today it was Abruzzo's turn, with the Regional Administrative Court ruling in favor of animal rights activists and the appeal against a portion of the 2025-2026 calendarSpecifically, this concerns a request from the National Dog Defense League and the Abruzzo Ornithological Station to suspend the section of the text referring to thrush hunting until January 31, 2026.
What is being contested in the Region?
These are the statements from the Station itself: “The Abruzzo Region continues to be absolutely non-compliant in the data collection and monitoring activities of the fauna that it had self-imposed with the Strategic Environmental Assessment of the Wildlife Hunting Plan".
The reference to the hunting world
The note continues: “This unfortunate situation requires particular caution in decisions that impact wildlife, which is a collective heritage. Instead, the regional government, as it did with deer, instead of acknowledging its own deficient management, continues to try unscientific shortcuts just to gain approval from hunters.".
