The uselessness of the new text
Great enthusiasm: these two words are enough to describe how the animal welfare law, so strongly supported by the Honorable Michela Vittoria Brambilla , was presented just two weeks ago . Now, however, the feelings are completely different, and the REA (Eco-Animalist Revolution) party has highlighted the uselessness of the former minister's text.
The episodes in Tuscany
National Secretary Gabriella Caramanica stated: "Two episodes of unprecedented violence against defenseless beings expose the shortcomings of the Italian justice system regarding animal abuse. The cases of Timida in Syracuse and Ofelia in Figline Valdarno are not just stories of brutal cruelty, but also demonstrate the ineffectiveness of the so-called Brambilla Law, so widely touted by the ruling parties, and a lack of credibility among the institutions. In Syracuse, poor Timida, a harmless stray, was brutally murdered after being tied to train tracks. Despite the charges filed, the confession of one of the hitmen, his testimony, and proof of a bank transfer for the execution, the instigator, a lawyer, remains at liberty. Meanwhile, in Figline Valdarno, the elderly 12-year-old dachshund Ofelia was violently kicked by her owner, who remains at liberty."
Empty promises
The statement continues: "These cases raise a question: what purpose did the law on increased penalties serve, if not mere political propaganda?" Comments Gabriella Caramanica, National Secretary of the REA political party, "Neither of the two alleged perpetrators was placed in pre-trial detention despite their flagrant crimes and the testimony of witnesses. Furthermore, given the chronic slowness of the Italian justice system, it is highly likely that none of these individuals will end up in prison, remaining unpunished for years. We are fed up with empty promises and political party propaganda. It is clear that there is no concrete change in animal welfare."
