Crops and structures affected
Lombardy Region closes 2025 with a result long awaited by the agricultural world: almost a thousand compensation requests presented by companies for the damage caused by wildlife They are in fact fully compensated with 2,4 million euros. The announcement was made by the regional councilor for Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Forestry, Alessandro Beduschi. "This is a significant financial effort," Beduschi explains, "which allows us to compensate all businesses for the damage caused to crops and farm structures by wild fauna. We're talking about a serious problem, primarily caused by species such as wild boars, other ungulates, pigeons, and crows, and generally by animals capable of compromising crops and pastures."
The liquidation of the sums
The funds will be paid out starting from the main portion allocated by the Lombardy Region, amounting to approximately €2,2 million. The Territorial Hunting Areas (ATC) and Alpine Hunting Districts (CAC) will contribute up to 10% of the compensation. "For businesses," the councilor continues, "damage from wildlife translates into lower harvests, higher costs, and consequently, greater uncertainty. In an already challenging time, we could not leave farmers alone to deal with a phenomenon that is beyond their control and which, I remind you, is governed by regulations that severely limit direct intervention."
How the compensation was distributed
"Lombardy," Beduschi concludes, "is doing its part fully, while we continue to call on the European Union for more effective tools for the active management of wildlife. Protecting those who produce food therefore means protecting an agricultural system that is an economic, social, and environmental asset for our region."
