Satisfaction with reservations
Coldiretti Molise welcomes with satisfaction the approval by the Regional Council of the Resolution which introduces further measures for the wildlife management and containment At the same time, however, he emphasizes the need to promptly implement all the measures contained therein. "We express our satisfaction with the approval of a resolution," says Claudio Papa, regional president of Coldiretti Molise, "which, as Coldiretti Molise, we have been requesting for over a year and a half. Thanks to our union efforts and the sensitivity of the regional government, especially the Agriculture Councilor Salvatore Micone, and Governor Francesco Roberti, it has now become a legal act."
The difficulties of agricultural companies
"What we have repeatedly asked the Regional Government over the months, as an essential tool for containing the number of wild boars in the area," explains Regional Director Aniello Ascolese, "was the implementation of Article 19-ter of Law 157/92, which defines objectives and actions, as well as roles and areas of intervention, that are much broader and completely separate from hunting activities." "The resolution approved by the Regional Council," emphasizes Claudio Papa, "finally goes in this direction; however, we cannot waste another day. Farms are exhausted, and it is essential that they can quickly return to work to produce food for all and income for themselves and their employees."
An unsustainable problem
With the introduction of this legislation, the Region clearly highlights the unsustainability of the problem posed by the presence of wild boars even in residential areas; furthermore, Coldiretti emphasizes that the uncontrolled expansion of these wild animals must be countered, starting in the countryside. "Reducing the number of wild boars in agricultural areas," concludes Ascolese, "will prevent them from increasingly approaching towns and cities, creating, as reported in daily news reports, safety issues and a very high risk of road accidents along the region's main roads." Finally, regarding the issue of compensation, as well as funding to support agriculture and livestock farming, Coldiretti emphasizes their importance and usefulness, but calls on the Region to implement a decisive change of pace, prioritizing the rapid deployment of available resources, regardless of their size (source: Coldiretti Molise).
