2026 edition with modification
In addition to the French getting pissed off and the newspapers flying around, today Paolo Conte could add to the verses of his famous song “Bartali” another detail that will be the protagonist of the 2026 Tour de France: African swine feverIt's not a crazy story, but the stark reality: the new edition of the famous cycling event (scheduled for July 4th to 26th) will undergo significant changes due to the virus, which we are all too familiar with in Italy.
How the path will change
The second stage will not be able to pass through Collserola because this area, not far from the Spanish-French border, is subject to restrictions due to a PSA outbreak. Since spectators will not be able to attend the route, the passage has been officially cancelled. How will the stage change in detail? At kilometer 123, the route will leave Molins de Rei and arrive at Plaza Espanya, bypassing Collserola.
Kilometers less
With this change, prompted by swine fever, the stage will be 16 kilometers shorter: it will be the second of three routes designed by the Tour de France organizers in Spain before arriving in France. While Italy is crying over PSA, France is certainly not laughing—a tiny and useless consolation.
