Authorizations and controversies
The hunting associations adhering to the Steering Committee are addressing the Regional Council of Tuscany to point out that the controversy raised in recent days by environmental associations on the regional resolution authorising the Lapwing hunting This is completely out of place. The lapwing, let us remember, is a huntable species, not a protected one. It is included among the species covered by Article 18 of Law 157/92, and its hunting is strictly regulated by a national management plan drawn up by ISPRA and approved last October 5th.
The opinions requested
Therefore, the Tuscany Region, in full compliance with the regulations, requested the opinions of both the CTFVN and ISPRA, indicating the maximum number of animals that can be harvested, as per the management plan, which was set at a few hundred during the hunting season. The CTFVN expressed a favorable opinion within the timeframe established by Article 18, paragraph 2, of Law 157/92, while ISPRA missed the legal deadline and its opinion was therefore considered accepted. To further ensure proper hunting practices, the number of animals established by the management plan (ISPRA) is monitored by the Toscaccia APP hunting license, which allows hunting of the species to be halted before the maximum number is reached.
There are more serious problems
We believe that the new regional political bodies should address more serious issues than the regulated harvest of a huntable species. Our thanks go to the Regional Council's technical offices, who have operated with their usual professionalism, in full compliance with the regulations, and have not been hindered by the receipt of a simple certified email (PEC), rather than an appeal to the Regional Administrative Court (TAR), which would imply the complete correctness of the regional resolution, from environmental associations. We remain, however, always available to discuss hunting issues without prejudice.
