Professional orientation
The project, titled "Environment, Fishing, and Local Wildlife," involved the third, fourth, and fifth-year classes at the Galileo Galilei Technical Institute in Arezzo. The recently concluded program included several events to raise students' awareness of the protection of aquatic ecosystems and offer them career guidance in the field of aquatics. wildlife management and also offering a practical analysis of local biodiversity. Classroom sessions alternate with targeted educational excursions.
Monitoring activities
The first was at the Carda Fish Farm in Casentino, where, thanks to the collaboration of Fiorenza Mascalchi, an 81-year-old veteran trout breeder who has always managed the facility, they were able to observe Mediterranean trout (Salmo ghigii) up close and witness artificial reproduction techniques. The second was along the banks of the Tiber, in a regulated area, where—with the support of the Alto Tevere Fly Fishing Club and the Provincial Police—they conducted biological monitoring of macroinvertebrates and fish sampling. This allowed the students to observe the river's most significant species, including trout, roach, brook goby, and roach, up close, in complete safety for the fauna. The project concluded with a visit to the Montedoglio dam, an opportunity to learn more about the infrastructure's strategic role in managing regional water resources.
An unconventional experience
According to the President of the Region and the Undersecretary to the Presidency, thanks to the commitment of those working in this strategic sector of the Tuscany Region, in synergy with the school and other local organizations, it has been possible to offer young people an absolutely unconventional educational experience, based on field observation and concrete tests, capable of introducing students to environmental protection and the responsible management of natural resources.
