Clear and fierce opposition
The Veneto Regional Council has introduced a digital regional hunting license, initially voluntary and then mandatory. The plan is to impose this on hunters in Veneto through a downloadable app on their cell phones, which will allow them to complete the required mandatory records. Speaking on behalf of the Veneto Hunters' Association, the Confederation of Italian Hunting Associations, the Association for Rural Culture, and the Foundation for Rural Culture, the Honorable Sergio Berlato, supported by Giulia Sottoriva, National President of CONF.AVI, unequivocally expressed their clear and vehement opposition to the proposal proposed by the Regional Council.
Criticisms of the proposal
This is the detailed view: the attitude of the leaders of the other associations is surprising. With a few notable exceptions, they have demonstrated a lukewarm, if not downright compliant, stance toward this unacceptable proposal from the Regional Council. The main arguments used by the Hon. Sergio Berlato to decisively oppose the proposal for a digital regional hunting license were the following:
1) not all hunters are equipped with a cell phone;
2) not all hunters who have a cell phone have the possibility of downloading the digital application;
3) not all hunters know how to use digital applications;
4) not all of the region has internet coverage;
5) your cell phone battery may run out;
6) Given that the average age of hunters in Veneto is over sixty, completing the license becomes difficult, including recording the number of animals shot, the selected hunting days, identifying the selected ATC or CA, etc.
A risky project
The Hon. Sergio Berlato, on behalf of the associations he represents, has called on the Regional Council to desist from implementing this project, which would lead to the abandonment of hunting, especially among older hunters. They must be guaranteed respect and not subjected to unacceptable bureaucratic taxes.
