A serious and unacceptable episode
The Euganean Hills Regional Park announces that on Friday, July 4, during routine wildlife collection activities, its operators encountered a serious and unacceptable incident: a female wild boar, killed in Baone on Via Casette, had an ear hole consistent with the removal of a breeding identification tag. The animal, clearly lactating, had therefore most likely been unlawfully released into the area, perhaps already pregnant, in complete violation of current regulations. The presence of a farmed animal, deprived of its identification, represents an illegal act and a significant health risk, especially at a time when the country is threatened by the spread of African Swine Fever.
Controls to be strengthened
These practices, in addition to hindering wildlife control, jeopardize the health, environmental, and economic safety of the entire agricultural sector. The Park has reported the incident to the competent Forestry Police, providing all available information. The main agricultural trade associations have also been alerted to ensure the incident is not overlooked and to strengthen controls against illegal releases.
A delicate environmental balance
"We are facing an irresponsible act that goes against all logic of land protection," stated Alessandro Frizzarin, president of the Euganean Hills Regional Park. "The Park works daily to legally and sustainably contain the presence of wild boar, which represents a real problem for biodiversity and local agriculture. Incidents like this undermine trust, exacerbate critical issues, and require a clear and shared response from all institutions and communities." The Park firmly reiterates its opposition to any form of unauthorized release of wild fauna and calls for increasingly close collaboration between authorities, law enforcement, and citizens to protect the delicate environmental balance of the Euganean Hills.
