The ordinance
Starting from yesterday, Thursday 12 February 2026, and until the end of the emergency, with a specific Mayoral Ordinance of Municipality of Fiumicino (Rome), the closure to the public of the Monumental Pine Forest of Fregene has been ordered.
Risks for people
The measure was made necessary following the sighting of a pack of six wolves within the area. Given the high frequency of residents visiting the pine forest, including those with pets, the Administration deemed it appropriate to adopt a precautionary measure aimed at protecting public safety.
Wolf Conservation
At the same time, the measure – according to the text – aims to ensure "the protection of the wolf, a protected species of great value for the balance of the ecosystem and the biodiversity of the area" (source: Municipality of Fiumicino).
