Question for written answer
“I have submitted an urgent written question to the Regional Council to request immediate clarity on the events that occurred in Cansiglio Plain "Last Sunday, an event featuring extremely loud music and floodlights transformed the area into an open-air disco, disturbing the environment and wildlife, particularly deer in full rutting season." This was announced by Andrea Zanoni, regional councilor for the Green and Left Alliance (AVS) and coordinator of the Europa Verde Animal Rights Observatory, who explains: "The incidents, reported by hikers and environmental associations, required the intervention of the Carabinieri and Forestry Police to stop the disturbance in an area of extremely high ecological value, protected by the Natura 2000 network. We are faced with an event of unprecedented gravity that demonstrates a total lack of respect for our natural heritage and perhaps, even more seriously, the failure of controls. It is unacceptable that a sensitive area like Cansiglio, for which the law requires an Environmental Impact Assessment (VIncA) for every activity, is treated like any other urban area. The deafening music and flashing lights late at night severely interfered with the deer’s bellowing, a crucial time in their reproductive cycle.”
The point on sanctions
In many natural areas in Italy, even vehicle entry is prohibited due to the roaring, while in Veneto rave parties are authorized? The Regional Government should immediately tell us if and who issued the permits, whether the VIncA was completed, and, in the event of violations, what sanctions it intends to apply. I also ask the Regional Government to consider withdrawing or revoking any concessions, authorizations, or licenses held by the entities that organized or permitted the event. Anyone who transforms Pian Cansiglio into a city-center stadium in the middle of the night, ignoring wildlife protection and legality, has no right to operate in our territory. We demand not only heavy fines for violators, but decisive action that includes the revocation of the permits of the companies or businesses involved. The Region must act with maximum transparency and legality and establish more rigorous control protocols to definitively protect Veneto's wildlife, which today is too often the victim of insensitivity and abuse.
Natura 2000 network
“Unfortunately,” Zanoni concludes, “those who govern the Veneto region have zero sensitivity to the environment. Just look at the projects on the Natura 2000 Network Site of the Revine Lakes, where they want to build a platform on the lake to celebrate Prosecco.” (Source: Veneto Regional Council)
