The decision of the judges
The Regional Administrative Court of Trentino has decided to block the killing of the bear known as "KJ1" which was held responsible for the attack a few days ago on a tourist of French nationality. The episode, to be precise, occurred in the municipal area of Dro (Trento).
No alternatives
These are the reasons given by the judges of the TAR: "The examination of the ante causam precautionary request appears justified and worthy of acceptance given the exceptional gravity and urgency of temporarily suspending the provision in the part in which it orders the immediate killing of the bear, without any possible alternative and at present without a definitive assessment of the actual traceability of the attack to the bear named KJ1, given the evident irremediability of its possible execution".
The characteristics of the bear
In the last few hours Maurizio Fugatti, number one in the Province of Trento, had signed the ordinance for the killing of the bear: it is, among other things, the oldest specimen in all of Trentino at 22 years old. Meanwhile, the conditions of the injured tourist, a 43-year-old who is no longer in danger of his life, are improving.
