In his blog published on ildolomiti.it Professor Sergio Ferrari dealt with the problem of the many damages caused by wild boars on our territory especially in Upper Valsugana. The reference is to wild boar in the fields cultivated with corn for fodder or polenta in the Levico area. THE local hunters, Ferrari explained, reluctantly accept the task of proceeding with the controlled killing of wild boars which in recent years have increased in number over an acceptable threshold. Stefano Ravelli, president of theAssociation of Trentino hunters which he defined as "ungenerous" to accuse hunters of "reluctantly accepting the task of proceeding with the controlled killing of wild boars" also considering the restrictive measures imposed by the government which effectively prevent all activities deemed non-essential.
To give an idea of how much effort is invested annually by hunters for the containment of wild boar Ravelli has decided to provide data for 2019. "The hunters authorized for the control of wild boar, only in Levico - he explained - the year last they performed 471 exit killing 29 wild boars, the foresters 1 ”. But to give a precise idea of the phenomenon, overall in Valsugana in 2019, the hunters / controllers have carried out 5.094 exit, dedicated solely and exclusively to the killing of wild boar, killing 210 heads. At the provincial level, however, they were shot down last year 590 wild boars with no small effort.
“The question - continues the president of the Association of Trentini Hunters - to ask now I believe is this: what would have happened if the containment activity of the hunters / controllers had really failed? While appreciating the effort made by foresters in this juncture, it is clear that thinking of limiting the number of wild boars only through the intervention of the school staff is like trying to empty a lake with a bucket, I think the numbers in this sense are exemplary. We can only hope that the control activity by the hunters will be reactivated as soon as possible, otherwise the problems will be much greater. We are ready" (Ildolomiti.it).
