La Province of Treviso has identified those responsible for the dangerous and destructive competition between ungulates. As reported by the Gazzettino, it was decided to prepare a specific plan linked to the hunting season to shoot down just over 50 mouflons in the area of massif of the Grappto. For what reason the mouflons? It is precisely these animals that are complicating the lives of others, namely the chamois.
According to the Venetian Province, in fact, the mouflon is considered quite competitive compared to other ungulates, therefore it often tends to occupy the typical areas of other species, primarily chamois. In short, they are responsible for real "thefts" of food that is not theirs. The promoters of the plan do not want it to be defined a "rash choice"indeed it is based on solid reasons.
The Province of Treviso had also prepared a plan to take down the foxes, then the Council of State rejected everything. Is there the same kind of risk now? The institution is convinced of its decision, in particular for the existence of an extensive bibliography on the expansion of mouflons in the chamois areas.
