Who filed the appeal
The Regional Administrative Court ofAbruzzo The Abruzzo Ornithological Station and Lndc Animal Protection (LNDC) Animal Protection (LNDC) have rejected the appeal against the Region, which has left several animal-environmental associations empty-handed with its latest ruling dated December 15, 2025. The decision made two months ago regarding the dates for the song thrush, redwing, and fieldfare has thus been overturned.

The dates have returned to the initial ones, here is a passage from the sentence: “The CTFVN is a body responsible, like ISPRA, for issuing opinions on hunting calendars. Its membership is mixed and broadly representative of the various environmental and scientific stakeholders in the sector. Its members include representatives of the Ministry of the Environment and Agriculture, but also, among others, the Director of ISPRA, representatives of environmental and hunting associations, and representatives of the Regions. This alone would be enough to render the appeal unfounded.".
Abilitation exam
These words are also significant: “The Abruzzo Region has departed from ISPRA's opinion, fully adhering to the EU Key Concepts. Regarding the risk of confusion between species, it should be remembered that the song thrush is by far the most common thrush species in Abruzzo and Italy and is therefore widely known to hunters in Abruzzo. Furthermore, it is a given that every hunting license holder in Italy has to take a qualifying exam that requires the recognition of huntable and protected species. It is unacceptable to prohibit hunting of huntable species during certain periods, due to the risk that hunters may not be able to distinguish the animals they are shooting at.".
