Political conditioning
In Florence the Regional Council of the Association enters into the merits of the controversies on the Lapwing collection and on the contents of the new Regional Wildlife and Hunting Plan to reestablish the correctness of the facts and reject any attempt to exert ideological pressure on the matter. The controversies that have erupted in these first days of the Tuscan legislative session, focusing, among other things, on aspects of hunting, reveal, even sooner than we might have expected, an attempt to "politically influence" the animal-environmental world on the Regional Council's future decisions.
The Region's warning
The document recently presented by WWF, LIPU, and Legambiente Toscana, and the resulting formal notice to withdraw the measure authorizing the hunting of the lapwing species, immediately found fertile ground in the official support positions of representatives of AVS and M5S, heralding serious critical issues regarding the content of the new PFVR. Regarding the lapwing, and more generally, the content of the new Regional Wildlife Hunting Plan, adopted at the end of the legislature by the Regional Council of Tuscany, the first test of internal relations within the majority is taking place. Hunting risks becoming the scapegoat, a concern that informed and characterized the meeting of the Regional Council of Federcaccia Toscana-UCT, held today in Florence.
Intervene firmly
The leadership of the most representative regional hunting association has decided to take firm action, particularly following the recent controversy rekindled by the press and media, to reestablish the truth of the matter and immediately reject a series of exploitations aimed at rekindling tensions and rifts, a trend that has long been entrenched in our region. Animal-environmental associations, in their usual accusations based solely on ideological grounds, are falsely distorting the facts. They deliberately omit the fact that the Tuscany Region approved the hunting of the lapwing in compliance with the provisions of the National Management Plan approved last October 2nd at the State-Regions conference. This management plan was drafted entirely by the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA). Therefore, the regional resolution correctly reflects the scientific guidance provided by ISPRA.
Approval process
Finally, those present reiterated the need for the current Tuscan Regional Council and Council to ensure the completion of the approval process for the new Regional Wildlife and Hunting Plan, on which our Association has promptly submitted its appropriate observations. This is a crucial, urgent, and urgent tool for initiating a series of management decisions regarding wildlife and the environment, which has been the subject of extensive discussion and debate in recent months. In the opinion of Federcaccia Toscana – UCT, the adopted proposal, while capable of improvement following the observations submitted by various stakeholders, is packed with valuable content that must be maintained and safeguarded, starting with the challenges facing biodiversity and for the responsible and conservative management of wildlife.
In the wake of continuity
This is an approach we have helped establish with our proposals and which cannot be called into question today for reasons of political visibility and pressure from anti-hunting fundamentalists. Our Association will continue its discussions with regional politicians and President Eugenio Giani in the coming days, confident that, as head of the hunting delegation, he will be able to ensure, as he repeatedly stated during the recent election campaign, a balanced approach and compliance with the commitments made on the main acts regarding this matter, in keeping with the continuity of the political-administrative action consolidated in recent years in our region (Press Office Federcaccia Toscana-UCT).
