Guidelines
The Regional Council of Tuscany has approved official resolutions for the management and selective culling of ungulates for the 2026-2027 hunting season. With Resolutions Nos. 853, 854, and 855 of July 20, 2026, the Region establishes the guidelines, calendars, and quotas for selective hunting of fallow deer, red deer (in non-suitable areas), and mouflon. The primary objective of the measures is to combine wildlife management with the protection of agricultural activities, adopting a containment and non-conservative management strategy where necessary.
Fallow Deer Harvest Plan (Resolution No. 853)
Resolution no. 853 of July 20, 2026, approves the fallow deer culling plan for both designated and non-designated areas. Selective culling is permitted for all sex and age groups (males, large bucks, large bucks, adult/slender females, and young) during the following periods:
From August 15 to October 20, 2026.
From November 1, 2026 to March 15, 2027.
In non-suitable areas, the Region promotes targeted sampling to limit the density of livestock, thus preventing damage to valuable crops (such as vineyards) and limiting animal dispersion.
Deer Harvest Plan (Resolution No. 855)
Resolution no. 855 of July 20, 2026, regulates the selective culling of deer exclusively in non-deer-hunting areas, where the management objective is to maintain minimum densities to protect agriculture. The culling periods vary based on the animal's sex and age group:
Adult Males (Classes III and IV): from August 15 to September 15, 2026 and from October 1, 2026 to February 15, 2027.
Sub-adult males (Class II) and young males (Class I): from 15 August to 15 September 2026 and from 1 October 2026 to 15 March 2027.
Adult Females / Young and Hatchlings (both sexes): August 15 to September 15, 2026 and October 1, 2026 to March 15, 2027.
Mouflon Collection Plan (Resolution No. 854)
With Resolution no. 854 of 20/07/2026, the Tuscany Region establishes the quotas and hunting periods for the mouflon species for the 2026-2027 season. For the general region, mouflon hunting follows the following scheme:
Adult Males and Young Males: from August 1st to September 30th 2026 and from November 1st 2026 to March 15th 2027.
Females and Puppies: from November 1, 2026 to January 31, 2027.
Note for the Lucca and Livorno Districts: In the Management Units falling within the territories of Lucca and Livorno, a single collection period valid for all classes and genders is established: from 1 October 2026 to 15 March 2027 (source: AB – Agrivenatoria Biodiversitalia).
