Regional choices
With DGR 774, the Tuscany Region approved the regional management and planning strategy for the control/eradication interventions of invasive alien speciesThis is the resolution:
1. To approve the regional management strategy (monitoring, control and eradication) of the invasive alien species present in the regional territory, Raccoon (Procyon lotor), Gray Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis), Sacred Ibis (Threskiornis aethiopicus), and Egyptian Goose (Alopochen aegyptiaca), based on the provisions and on the National Management Plans produced by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security and by ISPRA.
The validity of the regional plan
In particular it was established:
- to approve the regional control plan for the Sacred Ibis (Threskiornis aethiopicus) species, Annex A to this deed, of which it forms an integral and substantial part - to intervene, following the methods set forth in the aforementioned ISPRA opinion, with specific authorization decrees for the Egyptian goose (Alopochen aegyptiaca) species of the competent sector of the Agriculture and Rural Development Directorate in the reported cases of presence to ensure an effective removal action against the specimens;
– to initiate monitoring activities to verify the punctual presence of the Gray Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) species in the regional territory;
– to confirm the validity of the Regional Plan for the control of the Raccoon (Procyon lotor) approved with Regional Council Resolution no. 1055 of 27 July 2020 and to extend its validity and application to the entire regional territory.
Financial coverage
The strategy then envisages acknowledging that the costs envisaged for the implementation of the control, monitoring and eradication actions of invasive alien species for the three years will find financial coverage for a total of Euro 900.000,00 from the availability of the 2023-2025 Budget, respectively for the financial years 2023, 2024 and 2025 (source: Arci Caccia).
