The affected road
The Province of Perugia has decided to use very particular deterrents to avoid as much as possible the road accidents between cars and wild boars, accidents which unfortunately we hear about very often in the local news. The local authority is installing devices along Provincial Road 308, more precisely between Città della Pieve and the border with the province of Terni, that comply with the dictates of the Life Strade project.
Warnings for motorists and wildlife
In practice, the signals, light and sound messages of these deterrents serve to block wild animals from crossing the roads, while motorists are warned of the possible danger. Lanfranco Ghiani, a surveyor who is part of the competent provincial office, provided further details on the matter.
The sounds of the hunters
Here are the words of the expert: “The system is also equipped, like previous systems, with thermal sensors, energetically autonomous, which are able to identify the presence of animals on the roadside and activate a light signal to warn the car in transit, in order to induce it to slow down. If the driver does not reduce his speed, an acoustic deterrent system comes into operation which makes the animal move away, reproducing the sound of a wild boar hunt".
