The League's comment
“A lame pre-opening, which finally, after many battles, will be possible to do for the entire day of September 1st, but almost devoid of huntable species”. This is the comment of the regional councilor of the League Umbria Manuela Puletti, "who has been fighting for months to give Umbrian hunters a dignified pre-opening, to the changes to the hunting calendar that the regional council is preparing to definitively launch".
Hunting season 2024-2025
“With the approval of the draft Hunting Calendar in the Third Commission which establishes a single pre-opening day with wild dove with app and game bag in addition to the addition of corvids – explains Puletti on the sidelines of the session – the 2024-25 hunting season is defined. For months - recalls the representative of the League - in a pressing manner, sometimes even with heated tones, I have asked and hoped for a pre-opening similar to that of the Marche, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Lazio and many other regions which with a pinch of courage and a programmatic vision of hunting were achieved. Instead, Umbria will only have wild doves in the pre-opening phase with app and game bag reduced to less than 3 thousand heads in total and corvids”.
The Pigeon question
“In fact – informs Puletti – the hypothesis of the city pigeon has also been removed, because Ispra has given a negative opinion on this species. Opinion which, we remember, is mandatory, but not binding. Introducing the pigeon – comments Puletti – would have been an act of ambitious courage, a symptom of a hunting policy alongside the hunters. It is a pre-opening that certainly does not reflect the political line of the League, which had made even more ambitious requests, such as the finch and the brambling. With rationality, which we claim, the League was in fact carrying forward the hypothesis of a pre-opening on paper that was adoptable and sustainable, as done by other Regions".
Positive sides
“The only favorable point – he adds – is the fact that for the first time in many years there will be no ax from the app which, having reached the turtle dove game in a couple of hours, forced the hunters to return home. And this, I remember, also due to the failure to read the cards during the years of the previous center-left administration and of an Observatory that did not carry out its task. Therefore, on September 1st, thanks to the introduction of corvids, hunters will at least be able to hunt for the whole day. But it is a palliative compared to a situation that could have been managed differently. I remember – concludes Puletti – that the League asked to also include collared doves, starlings and pigeons. The role of the councilors is to propose and fight so that those common sense proposals can be taken into consideration, but the decision to execute or not is in the hands of those who have the executive power to do so" (source: Umbria Region).
