The importance of environmental protection
At today's meeting, the Umbria Regional Council approved the resolution establishing the new agreement with the Province of Terni for fishing and hunting surveillance activities for the two-year period 2025-2026. This agreement confirms and renews an already active and consolidated collaboration, which has allowed the Region to strengthen territorial control and compliance with regulations regarding the protection of wildlife and fish stocks. "With this agreement," stated Simona Meloni, Regional Councilor for Agriculture and the Environment, "the Umbria Region reaffirms the importance of environmental protection as a strategic lever for safeguarding biodiversity and the sustainable management of natural heritage. Structured and coordinated surveillance is essential to ensure a balance between the use and protection of environmental resources."
How the resources will be used
The agreement with the Province of Terni, lasting two years, provides for a total expenditure commitment of 20.000 euros, financed with autonomous regional funds, divided equally between the 2025 and 2026 financial years. The resources, as highlighted in the resolution, will be used to support the activities of the Terni Provincial Police Corps, which will operate in synergy with the Forestry, Mountain and Wildlife Service of the Region. The planned activities include the control of sport and professional fishing, monitoring of protection zones, surveillance of public and protected areas, support in field surveys for authorizations and concessions, and the activity of combating poaching and illegal fishing. "Continuing on this path - added Councilor Meloni - means strengthening Umbria's ability to monitor its territory in a widespread, competent manner and close to local communities".
Cooperation model
The agreement also represents a model of cooperation between institutional levels: it involves the Region, the Province of Terni and the Provincial Police Corps, and is in continuity with what has been achieved with the Province of Perugia, according to the guidelines of DGR 331/2025, which promotes an integrated governance of environmental surveillance functions. The measure approved today includes the definition of the financial plan, the distribution of commitments by budget chapter and cost center, and the timetable for the collection of resources. The Forestry Service of the Region is responsible for following up on the implementation of the agreement, which will also be published on the institutional website (Source AGENZIA UMBRA NOTIZIE).
