The words of the commissioner
Councillor Marco Carrel announces that the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the Valle d'Aosta has decided to equip itself with 12 latest-generation traps, called Pigbrig, specifically invented and made in the USA for the capture of suidae. “In the Extraordinary Plan for the capture, killing and disposal of wild boars of the strategic actions for the development of eradication plans in the restriction zones of African Swine Fever for the period 2023-2028, signed by the Extraordinary Commissioner for African Swine Fever, the objective of the maximum numerical reduction of wild boars in the territory of the Aosta Valley has been identified. – explains Councilor Marco Carrel. To this end, in addition to the use of the usual capture and killing systems, our region has equipped itself with latest-generation capture systems, to be installed in the areas with the highest density of wild boars.”
The actual delivery
The traps will be delivered by the supplier company on December 6th and the same company will also provide training for the operators who will use the traps, agents of the Aosta Valley Forestry Corps and trained hunters.
Where the systems will be installed
The capture systems will be installed in the south-eastern part of the regional territory corresponding to the forestry jurisdictions of Châtillon, Verrès and Pont-Saint-Martin and in particular in the valley floor areas of the Dora Baltea, on the border with Piedmont and in the initial stretches of the lateral valleys and in the areas adjacent to the farms considered to be at high risk (source: Valle d'Aosta Region).
