Hunting in Veneto – During the 2018-2019 hunting season, hunters in Veneto will be able to use live decoys belonging to the orders Anseriformes and Charadriiformes, also known as Anatidae. The favorable avian influenza epidemiological situation has prompted the European Commission and the Ministry of Health to authorize their use to support hunting activities, the Veneto Region announced in a statement, in full compliance with the rules and requirements of a rigorous operating protocol adopted, based on EU guidelines, by the competent national authority, the Ministry of Health.
It is precisely the Ministry itself that has certified the successful resolution of a critical phase of the avian influenza epidemic at the national level and, on this basis, has initiated a new management phase, aimed at authorizing the use of these live decoys. This is also taking into account that this very use serves as a means of closely monitoring the epidemiological situation in the region. The resolution approved on Monday by the Veneto Regional Council, upon a proposal from the Councilor for Hunting, Giuseppe Pan, in consultation with the Councilor for Health, Luca Coletto, fits into this overall framework .
"The use of live calls must therefore comply with appropriate biosecurity measures, in order to be able to identify in an early manner the possible spread of the avian virus - warns Pan - which, as known, is transmitted and circulates in the populations of birds, wild animals, domestic and in breeding. The Veneto Region therefore confirms the authorization regime that it had already adopted ten years ago, thus ensuring compliance with the procedural and management provisions identified by the Ministry of Health ”.
