The blitz of the Carabinieri Forestali
“We learn from the press that the birds seized in recent days in a garage-butcher's shop in Piove di Sacco, by the Carabinieri Forestali of Mestre, Venice and Padua, during an anti-poaching operation, also come from the Valle Pierimpié hunting and wildlife company in Campagna di Lupia (VE), the same one that hit the headlines for the hunting of Trump Jr.. Last January 27, during the blitz conducted by the Carabinieri Forestali, 1.400 birds and 8.500 rounds of ammunition were seized”. This is what Andrea Zanoni and Renzo Masolo, regional councilors of Europa Verde, claim.
The alleged crimes
“Now we have to ask ourselves what crimes were contested in the blitz of the Carabinieri Forestry at the company that hosted Trump Junior – the regional councilors continue – The National Plan to combat poaching describes as the main criminal violations in wetlands the use of hunting rifles with more than three cartridges, the use of electro-acoustic decoys, exceeding the number of birds that each hunter can kill, the use of ammunition containing lead shot, the hunting of protected species, all violations of the Birds Directive, 2009/147/EC”.
Revocation of the concession
“Thanks to Trump Junior, we mere mortals have been able to discover a new hunting trend: harakiri duck hunting – observe the representatives of Europa Verde – In fact, the famous duck, a rare and protected Ruddy Shelduck (Tadorna ferrugginea), which appears in the video portraying Trump Junior hunting in the Venice area, no one knows how it would have ended up dead next to him. Listening to the magnate's version, one almost suspects that the poor duck took its own life spontaneously at the sight of such cruelty. Who knows if, given the seizure in recent days, the ammunition and weapons used during the hunt were not attributable to those subsequently seized by the Forestry Carabinieri because they were not permitted. Perhaps Trump Jr would have done well to stay and shoot in the USA, where in wetlands there are much more stringent rules, such as the ban on using decoys and baiting ducks, things that are unfortunately permitted here”. “In light of the new elements, we have therefore deemed it necessary to submit a new urgent question to the Veneto Regional Council to request the activation of the procedure for revoking the concession to the company in question, a concession which was also renewed at the end of December 2024”, conclude Andrea Zanoni and Renzo Masolo (source: Veneto Regional Council).
