Closing of the tender
“The tender for the assignment of contributions aimed at implementing the regional plan of control of nutria. The entire budget made available, 238 thousand euros, was assigned to the Municipalities, the Reclamation Consortia/Basin Authorities, the Parks and Reserves managing bodies and the managing bodies of the regional Natura 2000 network sites. In total, there were 58 educated questions”. This was stated by the Regional Councilor for the Territory and Hunting, Cristiano Corazzari, presenting the final data on participation in the nutria tender, a tender activated by the Veneto Regional Council last year and part of the regional nutria control plan, aimed at covering the costs incurred by various local authorities and administrations in the activity of nutria eradication.
The entities involved
The applications were mostly presented by the Municipalities, 51, against 6 from Reclamation Consortia/Basin Authorities, while 1 comes from Park managing bodies. The average amount per single beneficiary of 4.100 euros. By distributing the questions by province, Verona is in the lead (26 instances), followed by Venice (11), Rovigo (9), Padua (8), Vicenza and Treviso (2 each). Applications for a larger contribution were presented to reimburse the costs of the operators, for assignments to be entrusted to pest control companies, and for the purchase of cages for trapping.
Damages to avoid
"We are satisfied that we have managed to respond to the requests of the institutions by allocating the total of the allocated contributions - adds Corazzari - Nutrias are harmful to man and the environment and we are aware of this, their burrows damage the banks of rivers and channels causing dangerous settlements. Not to mention the problems they cause for crops. For this reason, the Veneto Region will continue to supervise and support the local administrations that are faced with such situations. Given the good outcome, it is certainly an experience worth repeating” (source: Veneto Region).
