Wild animals
“Fields, vineyards, orchards, vegetable gardens, pastures are devastated by the presence of wild animals. Flocks and farms under attack. Nutrie, magpies, crows and wild boars destroy food production, exterminate crops, cause road accidents with deaths and injuries, and reach into urban centers, endangering people's health and safety. In Veneto the damages amount to millions of euros – explains the president of Coldiretti Veneto Carlo Salvan - from crops to the hydrogeological system, the risks are not only for farmers, but also for the health, safety of citizens and the hydraulic safety of the territory".
This morning's protest
The farmers say STOP TO WILDLIFE with a demonstration called for today IN VIA TORINO 106 PIAZZALE EX MOF, in front of the 'Il Gazzettino' building which houses the offices of the Veneto Region, gathering members from all the provinces of the Veneto to reiterate to the Region how essential tools and responses are to counter the proliferation of non-native species.
Expectations from the Region
“After the local meetings with the social base in recent months and the presentation of a document of proposals to President Zaia, we want to raise attention on the proposals we have developed to effectively combat wildlife. The operational lines recently adopted by the Veneto Region in relation to the Priu are a first response for us – says Carlo Salvan – but it is only a beginning. We hope that the Region will fully accept our proposals: the tools available today are insufficient, as in the case of nutrias, a true scourge for our territory. It becomes strategic, in the fight against wild animals, that resources are allocated every year to incentivize those authorized to carry out control, selection and culling activities, without neglecting the issue of compensation for damages" (source: Coldiretti Veneto).
