Hunting in Veneto. The Regional Council of Veneto approved, on the proposal of the commissioner Giuseppe Pan, the Hunting calendar for the 2016-2017 hunting season: the season will open on Sunday 18 September and will end on 30 January, with 5 pre-opening days (1, 3, 4, 10 and 11 September) in which hunting for blackbirds, turtledoves, jays is allowed , magpies, black and gray crows.
For some wild species, the hunting season will end according to the species being sampled: turtledoves and fighter are huntable until October 31; the hare until 30 November; the blackbird until December 15; gray partridge, pheasant, lark, quail and wild rabbit until December 31st; jays, magpies and black and gray crows until 11 January; woodcock and song thrush until 19 January. Hunting limits have also been set for white hares, ptarmigan, black grouse and rock partridge, which will be hunted until November 30th only on the basis of numerical sampling plans based on specific censuses.
For the other species, the general closure on 30 January applies, except for nine days of postponement of the hunting season: from 1 to 9 February it is possible to to hunt jay, magpie, black and gray crow.
"With regard to sedentary game - anticipates the commissioner Pan - the regional administration proposes a single calendar at the regional level, without therefore differentiation at the level of Provinces and territorial hunting areas. Any reports that may be sent to the Region in the experimentation authorized over the last few years will be carefully evaluated in order to make the final results of the experiment available ".
Another important novelty for the 2016/2017 season is represented by not providing for the pre-opening of the wood pigeon species. This species will be huntable from 18 September until 30 January, without interruption. "The lack of pre-opening allows - explains the commissioner - to be able to carry out a sampling of the wood pigeon without having to suspend the sampling between the end of December and the beginning of January (for almost two weeks), which is mandatory if one had opted, like the past seasons, of the two pre-opening hunting days ".
Another novelty of the 2016-2017 season in terms of hunting regulation is the introduction of a package of hunting days in mobility, which can be used by every single hunter resident in Veneto. It is one of the novelties determined by the recent legislative intervention of the Veneto Regional Council, which aligns the Veneto with what has already been experienced for some years by other Italian Regions, such as Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna.
As for the hunting card for the next 2016/2017 season, the main innovations are the restoration of the univocal indication of the hunting day in day of the week / number of the day / month format, both in the pages for hunting ungulates and in the pages for sedentary and migratory game hunting; and the provision of two different card formats, one of which is intended for hunters who also hunt ungulates and one for hunters who are dedicated to hunting all other wild species.
