The intervention of the Region
From next weekend the hunting season in Veneto will be able to start regularly thanks to two resolutions of the Regional Council of Veneto approved today on the proposal of the Councilor for Hunting, Cristiano Corazzari. The first measure intervened on the regional hunting calendar 2024-2025, approved on June 10, establishing the daily and seasonal bag for the following species: Northern Shoveler, Garganey and Redwing. The second measure instead reinstates the hunting of Turdidae although only in the form of a blind. In September, in fact, the Regional Administrative Court had partially accepted the appeal presented by some environmental associations, including the League for the Abolition of Hunting, WWF Italy, LIPU, LAV and ENDC, partially suspending the regional hunting calendar with an ordinance.
Corazzari's words
“With the resolutions approved today – explains Councilor Corazzari – the Redwing’s bag is set at 15 birds per day per hunter instead of the potential 25. A more protective measure for the conservation status of the species. Likewise, for the Garganey (Spatula querquedula) and Shoveler (Spatula clypeata) species, the specific bag is set at 18 birds here too instead of the potential 25 per hunter. For all the remaining species of migratory birds, the provisions already provided for in the current hunting calendar apply”. With the second provision, the Council provides for the reopening of hunting for the Redwing, Song Thrush and Fieldfare starting immediately with the only limitation, valid until October XNUMX, that it must be carried out from a hide.
Answers to hunters
"With these two measures - underlines the councilor Corazzari - the Veneto Region wanted to give concrete answers to the hunting world, resolving an impasse that the TAR order had determined, combining the precautionary principle with the legitimate expectations of the hunting world. Certain representatives of the hunting world, instead of fomenting hunters against the regional offices, engaged for a long time in a long and in-depth investigative work to give shape to a balanced calendar, respectful of the environment, of European and national regulations, should avoid instrumental protests that only cause damage to an Institution that has always been close to hunters. As I have had the opportunity to reiterate several times, also at the State-Regions conference level, the real problem lies upstream in the relationship between Ispra (the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research) and the region. It is an issue that can only be resolved at a government level". (Source REGIONE VENETO)
