Hunting and legislation in Veneto. After the controversy unleashed by the new regional hunting law on fines for those who disturb the hunters, the councilor Sergio Berlato opens to the requests of the residents in the areas frequented by poachers.
In fact, a Bill is ready, which will be presented in the coming days to the Veneto Regional Council by Sergio Berlato, President of the Third Permanent Commission of the Regional Council, which provides for the same administrative sanctions (from 600 to 3.600 euros) for poachers who shoot in proximity of homes, equating these sanctions with those just approved by the Veneto Regional Council for those who want to intentionally prevent the exercise of hunting and fishing.
The state law 157/92 provides for the prohibition for the hunter to practice hunting at a distance of less than one hundred meters from the houses. “Since there are some poachers who, not respecting the law, allow themselves to go to shoot in the vicinity of homes, an action which is not only illegal but which also produces a highly negative impact on public opinion, we believe we have to sanction them heavily and in the same way we have just decided to sanction those who intentionally want to prevent the exercise of lawful activities such as hunting and fishing ".
“Equating poachers with hunters - commented Sergio Berlato - is like equating road pirates with motorists. Not because there are some poachers who do not respect the laws, we must think of prohibiting hunters from their sacrosanct right to exercise, in compliance with the law, hunting and not because there are some road pirates who do not respect the rules of the road we must to think of preventing motorists from using the car. Since too often someone wants to artfully confuse poachers with hunters and pirates of the road with motorists to make a bundle of all the grass, we believe we must make a clear distinction between the subjects in question and heavily punish those who, with their own deplorable behavior, it damages the image of an entire category ”.
