By 2025, Veneto will be able to count on 48 new agents from the provincial bodies of the Fish Hunting Police. With these new hires, the Police will reach the planned number of 138 officers by 2025 with the appointment of the commander for the Corps currently lacking. The Veneto Region has given the financial coverage of over 5 million euros, necessary to achieve this objective: 1.070.000 euros for the year 2023, 1.850.000 euros for 2024 and 2.427.000 euros for 2025. This year, 29 agents will already be hired, in 2024 a further 9 and in 2025 a further 10. Hiring is possible thanks to the approval of the Supplementary Agreement with the Provinces of Veneto and the Metropolitan City of Venice, approved by resolution of the Regional Council, upon proposal by the regional councilor for the Territory, Security, Hunting and Fishing Cristiano Corazzari. The Agreement integrates the conventions between the Veneto Region, holder of fish hunting powers, the Provinces and the Metropolitan City of Venice for the supervision and control of hunting and fishing, already stipulated and currently enforceable.
Fight against poaching
"This is an act eagerly awaited by the stakeholders of the area - explains the councilor Cristiano Corazzari - The new recruitment of agents will allow the provincial fish hunting police to effectively carry out the important supervisory activity to prevent poaching and wildlife protection crimes wildlife and water conservation; they will also allow for the control of harmful wildlife to prevent damage to crops and irrigation works. Thanks to the financial coverage approved by the Regional Council, the Veneto Region can proceed with the signing of the agreement. We thank the UPI for its collaboration and support for the operation which effectively transfers the autonomy for recruitment to the Provinces through specific calls for tenders in a logic of subsidiarity".
The numbers in detail
The Provinces and the Metropolitan City of Venice will therefore be able to hire a total of 48 agents and administrative personnel over the three-year period (44 new agents and 4 new administrative personnel), who, joining the current 86 agents and 4 administrative personnel, will make it possible to bring the total contingent back to 138 unit. In total, there will be 2025 agents in the region in 138, of which 27 in Belluno (with 7 new hires), 14 in Padua (8 hires), 16 in Rovigo (7 hires), 17 in Treviso (7 hires), 18 in Venice (5 hires), in Verona 23 (7 hires), in Vicenza 23 (7 hires). Among the main activities they will deal with the rescue of injured wildlife; control of species by preventing damage to agricultural production and livestock, control of wildlife farms, supervision of hunting and fishing, control of wildlife even in protected natural areas; judicial police and public safety activities and duties in the field of hunting and fishing, wildlife management activities of alien species and fish fauna (source: Veneto Region).
