Agreement scheme
The Regional Council of Lazio, chaired by Francesco Rocca, on the proposal of the Councillor for Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, Giancarlo Righini, has approved the draft Collaboration Agreement with Rome capital city To address the emergency related to the presence of wild boars in the city in a structured and definitive manner. This measure marks a concrete step toward more effective management of the phenomenon, with the aim of improving citizen safety, reducing road accidents, and preventing health risks associated with the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF).
The skills in detail
The agreement, based on institutional collaboration between the Lazio Region and the Capitoline Hill, finally integrates expertise and operational tools, overcoming fragmented interventions and ensuring coordinated and continuous action throughout the capital. Specifically, the Lazio Region will be responsible for coordinating wildlife control and containment efforts, while Rome Capital will provide logistical support, territorial oversight, and reporting management, including through the local police. This integrated model aims to achieve concrete and measurable results in the short term. Among the established objectives: timely intervention within 24-48 hours, a structured plan of local actions, and a significant reduction in the presence of wild boars in the most critical urban areas.
Coordinated strategy
"With this agreement," stated Giancarlo Righini, Councilor for Agriculture and Food Sovereignty of the Lazio Region, "we are further strengthening the efforts already underway to contain wild boars, through an even more coordinated and operational strategy. The Region's commitment to wild boar containment has never wavered: in recent years, we have continued ongoing interventions throughout the region, strengthening our tools and collaboration with local authorities. Today, we can also operate in the city of Rome, on behalf of Roma Capitale, thanks to the lifting of restrictions related to the red zone for ASF. This allows us to intervene in an even more effective and coordinated manner, responding more promptly to citizens' needs."
Delays are no longer allowed
"The safety of citizens comes first, as does the protection of our agricultural businesses and the land. We can no longer afford delays or underestimations: concrete decisions and actions are needed, and this agreement goes exactly in this direction. It is a clear step change because, even in the urban area of Rome, we are addressing the root of the problem, with adequate tools and with full accountability on the part of the institutions. Our goal is to bring under control a situation that has caused too much disruption and restore a safer and more livable area for citizens." The agreement also provides dedicated resources to support control and monitoring activities, as part of an institutional collaboration that focuses on effective interventions and transparency in the use of funds.
