Urgent order
Below we report the joint press release of the Regional Coordination of the Calabria of the Hunting Associations ANUUMigratoristi, ARCI CACCIA, ENALCACCIA, EPS, LIBERA CACCIA and ITALCACCIA: “In compliance with the provisions of the law of the Italian Government and European regulations, it was rightly deemed urgent to issue the aforementioned ordinance, paying particular attention to the latest domestic outbreaks in the Regions of Emilia Romagna, Lombardy and Piedmont to combat the spread of ASF wherever it occurs”.
The discovery of a positive carcass
"The undersigned associations, aware of the emergency, appreciate and share the timely and prompt intervention of the Commissioner and make themselves available for any activity that is necessary for the precaution and prevention of the spread of PSA. But for Calabria the current situation is very different!! Evidence of all this is the last official discovery of a carcass positive for PSA that dates back to about a year ago. The entire Reggio territory is under siege by an uncontrolled number of wild boars that, in addition to bringing local agriculture to its knees, are the protagonists of a series of serious accidents in the urban area.
Eradication measures
The Associations undertake to organize their volunteers in agreement with the proposed authorities to collaborate, as required in monitoring, in the installation of fences, deterrents, for the killing activity with their operators trained for this purpose on the programs and directions provided by ISPRA. At the same time they REQUEST, with firm conviction, a formalized derogation in accordance with the provisions of ART. 4 of the ordinance. This derogation, which concerns wild boar hunting within the scope of the measures for the eradication and surveillance of the PSA, should include the use of the dog in compliance with the best precautionary conditions, ensuring the effectiveness of the depopulation activity with all the expected and necessary rules, a derogation requested and obtained by several Regions.
The primary interest
We also REQUEST, as already done in several notes, that the Commissioner invested by the government provide to put the Calabria Region in the right conditions so that the "famous" and much needed collection centers can be organized. Today our priority interest is not the recreational/hunting one but public health and the protection of the livestock economy activity in our region. We are at the service of the Calabrese Community as always.
