Containment of swine fever
After the first edition in March/April 2022, the qualifying training for border and track dog handlers promoted by Federcaccia Calabria. In fact, the first appointment of 2024 aimed at the qualification of border dog handlers and turn operator has just ended in Lamezia Terme (CZ); central and fundamental figures for collective selective hunting which will expand, also by virtue of the activities relating to the containment of African swine fever, through the current ordinances and the new PSA eradication plan aimed at dealing with this emergency. The theoretical-practical training course, organized by Federcaccia Calabria together with the provincial section of Catanzaro, was held on 1 - 3 - 4 February at the "Masseriairisi" farmhouse and saw the participation of 54 aspiring hosts.
Lessons in two parts
After the introduction to the proceedings by the President Federcaccia Calabria Giuseppe Giordano and the President Federcaccia Catanzaro Emanuele Meloni, the first theoretical part was covered by Giorgia Romeo, an expert member of the FIDC Studies and Research Office. The second part of the lessons, of a theoretical-practical nature, was entrusted to the expert teacher in the field and ENCI judge Antonio Zuffi.
Final Exam
It is worth underlining the great preparation and professionalism of the course teachers, who deserve praise and thanks from the organizers for their availability. Also speaking during the 3 days were the president of FIDASC Calabria Francesco Citriniti, the provincial president Federcaccia Vibo Valentia as well as vice president of ENCI Calabria Riccardo Colistra and the provincial president Federcaccia Cosenza Francesco Antonio Greco. In addition to the president, we would like to thank the secretary of the FIdC section of Catanzaro Tonino Merazzi, the vice president of Federcaccia Calabria Mario Cristofaro and Paolino Rizzo who acted as secretary and tutor of the course. A heartfelt thanks also to the Calabria Region Agriculture Department, the Hunting Office and Councilor Gianluca Gallo for his sensitivity towards these issues and related training activities.
Growth and preparation
The work concluded with a final test which was fully passed by all participants to the great satisfaction of Federcaccia and the training staff. Always attentive to the growth and preparation of hunters, Federcaccia Calabria will continue with other training events in the near future of which appropriate information will be given. This series of courses, track dog handler, border guard and turn operator, will next stop in Reggio Calabria (in a few weeks) and to follow in the other provinces of the region (source: FIDC).
