The provincial section of Bergamo of Italian Federation of Hunting announced that once again the hunters were the protagonists of an interesting scientific discovery. Stephen Locatelli, a hunter-naturalist from Valleve, has in fact managed to photograph a European golden jackal in high altitude Brembana Valley: during the nocturnal hare censuses there had been gods fleeting sightings, even if for some time its particular characteristics have shrouded everything in an aura of mystery.
In addition to photos of deer, roe deer, chamois, badgers and foxes, last June 4th at 21pm this new animal was photo-trapped. It was speculated that it could be the same wild canid as the previous time and the shots were sent to Luca Lapini, zoologist of the Natural History Museum of Udine. Lapini has confirmed that it is undoubtedly a golden jackal: the expert researchers will now be called to carry out the acoustic monitoring.
That of Locatelli is the first report ever in the whole of Lombardy, without forgetting that the species is progressively expanding to the east, with some reproductive nuclei located in Friuli, Veneto and Trentino. The species is particularly protected according to Italian laws, with a presence in our country that has lasted since the XNUMXs.
Strange that he passed unscathed from Valle Camonica, he must surely have entered from Switzerland
