100 years ago was born ad Asiago Mario Rigoni Stern. His works, in addition to his figure as a man and a soldier, have made him one of the characters of the culture of the '900 not only within the borders of our country. Deep connoisseur of nature and the wild that inhabit it, of tree species and mountains, Rigoni Stern has written wonderful pages to describe and underline the close relationship of man with all of creation, coming to grasp the most authentic and profound meaning of this bond. He was not an expansive type, but with his subdued speech he conveyed the depth of his thinking.
Serenity mixed with great suffering, which still caused him the memories of the hardest moments of his life. Basically with this motivation, the Italian Federation of Hunting awarded him in 1992 its highest honor, that of "Gentleman Hunter". In fact, Mario Rigoni Stern was also an attentive and sensitive hunter and dedicated pieces of great depth and strength to this passion. Our memory goes to him and his teaching - moral, civil, ethical - on this anniversary. To contemporaries the invitation to resume, or to those who had never done so to read, his works and to reflect on the relevance of his writings and on the way to pursue the balance between man, environment and animals (Source: Hunting Federation).
