The facts at a glance
The Regional Administrative Court of Umbria has rejected the appeal filed by a man against the measures against him by the Prefecture and Police Headquarters in matters of weapons and hunting license. The license to carry a firearm was denied following an episode involving this person's son. As found by some volunteer guards near Bettona (Perugia), the boy, a minor at the time of the events, was caught hunting at night with his father's rifle.
Other irregularities
Given his age, he didn't have a hunting license, and he also wouldn't have respected the distance from civilian buildings. The young man was just waiting for wild animals, but the intervention of the Carabinieri meant that the weapon and ammunition were seized. Police Headquarters and Prefecture have therefore revoked the parent's rifle port.
The reasons for the appeal
According to the man, the minor took possession of the rifle while he was out of town for work, moreover "nothing serious would have happened". The annulment of the previous revocations was not possible, as underlined by the administrative judges: "The reasons do not affect the appellant's judgment of unreliability with respect to the correct custody of the weapons", confirming the withdrawal of weapons and licence".
