Incident of hunting in Certaldo (FI). After the investigations carried out, the dynamics of the accident were reconstructed: the victim was stationed 100 meters from where the rifle shot that hit him in the chest started. Another postman shoots the boar but the bullet hits the hunter friend in full, killing him.
They were engaged in the killing of ungulates in a repopulation and capture area not suited for the wild boar hunting according to the hunting plan; in theory there shouldn't be wild boars in that area but instead there are dozens of them. For this reason, the Metropolitan City of Florence has authorized the killing of wild boars in the area, entrusting the task of freeing the area from ungulates to the local hunting association. A routine operation, with about thirty men busy. In the locality of Tavolese, in Marcialla, in the municipality of Certaldo, a stone's throw from the Sienese Valdelsa.
The accident. Certaldo's team on the front line, supported by other fans of the so-called “squadrette”: «All experts», the insiders assure. Around 10 a small group spots some wild boars on a hill close to a wood, where visibility is good. The hunters prepare to take them down, occupying the various "posts", several tens of meters away from each other.
The dogs of the team "push" the animals towards the guns and one in particular ends up in the crosshairs. As expected. But from the rifle of Alberto F., 70 years old, from Certaldo, the shot that turns the joke into tragedy starts. The bullet from his “30-06” hits Giancarlo L., 63, also from Certaldo. And it leaves no way out. The pensioner collapses to the ground in a wheat field.
The call to 118 is immediate, but the rescuers (Mercy and self-medication, also supported by the Fire Brigade) have nothing to do but record the death. Caused by an error that even to the Florence public prosecutor's office appears serious, gross. Especially if committed by experienced people.
According to the witnesses, in fact, Alberto fired when the boar was now out of its "sector" and in the trajectory between him and Giancarlo. A choice perhaps dictated by an excess of security, which proved to be fatal. And that has plunged an entire community into mourning, as well as destroying two families.
The desperation of the wife. "It can't be him, he's sleeping." Giuliana is the wife of Giancarlo (who also leaves behind two children). Arrive with another relative. He also accuses a slight illness. Volunteers accompany her to her husband's corpse, at the foot of a hut a few tens of meters from the accident site. She cries in despair under the petrified eyes of the hunters. Upset.
PM Paolo Barlucchi has opened an investigation to shed light on the dynamics. In the next few hours he will hear the only suspect, Alberto F., but also the other witnesses and the same relatives of Giancarlo L., to get a complete picture of the tragedy and the context in which it took place. "It was a disgrace" repeated desperate batting companions to the Carabinieri, supported in the surveys by the State Forestry Corps and Provincial Police. But many aspects remain on the bench to be clarified.
The first useful information could come from the autopsy, ordered by Barlucchi, which will be carried out on Thursday 7 at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Florence. In the meantime, Osvaldo Rossi, the representative of the management committee of the repopulation area (made up of the various area associations), stresses that "only expert hunters were involved in the killing, authorized by the Metropolitan City of Florence".
All expert hunters. A thesis reaffirmed by Paolo Banti, manager of the wildlife-hunting sector of the Tuscany Region, who from 1 January assumed the functions transferred from the Provinces: "Only hunters who have carried out specific courses and obtained a qualification, which includes also aspects related to safety.
All participants must wear high visibility orange vests. The group also includes a volunteer hunting surveillance agent. As far as I know, all the rules have been respected. Among other things, the two hunters involved were in a field, therefore with good visibility. We do not explain how this tragedy could have happened ».
