A fascinating species
The Combattente Project in the Marche Region , promoted by ACMA and the Study and Research Office of Federcaccia Nazionale, is continuing with encouraging results. It was created to deepen our understanding of the migration and ecology of this fascinating species. After the start of the experimental phase, the project continues to collect crucial data thanks to the commitment of volunteer hunters who, with consistency and precision, conduct monitoring sessions on the hunting lodges they create and manage.

Knowledge to increase
Their contribution is essential for increasing scientific knowledge about the ruff and promoting increasingly informed management. Even more important, however, is the importance of these "small oases of biodiversity," which demonstrate they represent a valuable resting and feeding site for migratory aquatic birds in transit, including ruffs. Ongoing activities allow us to gather information on the species' presence, the timing of migration, its sex composition, where possible, its environmental preferences, and the influence of weather conditions during stopover periods.
The contribution of the hunting world
The goal remains to build an increasingly robust database, useful both for scientific research and for the management and conservation of the ruff, demonstrating once again how the hunting world can make a concrete contribution to wildlife conservation through the commitment, knowledge, and passion of hunters.
