"The agordino hunting world - made up for the most part by local people and this represents a resource - cannot and should not be denigrated but rather inserted into a context of common and shared objectives. We are not only managers of huntable fauna, among other things a few species, but also controllers and maintainers of the territory ». The message came out loud and clear on Friday evening, a falcade, during the traditional end-of-year meeting of the 15 alpine reserves of the Agordino hunting district chaired by Alberto Colleselli. On this occasion, the 2022 calendar created by the naturalist painter Fabiano Nicolao was presented.
Among the audience, the regional councilors Silvia Cestaro and Giampietro Possamai, the mayors of Alleghe, Livinallongo and San Tomaso, the commander of the provincial police Oscar Da Rold, the guards on duty in Agordino, the former managing director for hunting in the province Franco De Bon, track dog retrievers and, of course, reserve presidents. "After the devastation of our environment caused by Vaia, aware of habitat changes, the need to maintain biodiversity and the excellence of our mountains, to support wildlife management based on conservation and sustainability criteria, in agreement with the relevant institutions (Province and Region) - it was underlined by the members of the District - we want to participate in the rebuilding and restoring all activities and the long path that will lead to the return of our natural environments, with healthy mountain agriculture and with tourism that is also sustainable and attractive ».
For this reason the hunters reject the frequent denigrations launched "by people who are poorly informed or even in bad faith. We do not want - it was pointed out - to be confused with a few who, often not even hunters, commit serious offenses to the detriment of everyone at night and in periods of prohibition. We do not want to be blamed for faults that are not ours such as non-hunting gunshots on road signs that have nothing to do with hunters or wildlife investments also in the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park which certainly are not caused by us ». The reference goes to the episode that took place at the end of October when unknown people fired at road signs in Agordo and Rocca Pietore: a "stop" sign at the Pezzè-Sorarù junction in Rocca and a "ban”In the hamlet of Don, in the municipality of Agordo, along the road that leads to the Framont mountain hut.
Hence the request for respect for those who work within the law. "Our side activities must also be recognized - said Colleselli - such as the maintenance of the environment, the mowing in abandoned areas, the assistance of fauna in difficulty, the recovery of damaged animals that we are doing at our risk, for the community, without legal and insurance coverage. We ask that adequate provincial vigilance be restored that can intervene not only in periods of hunting activity for the proper control of hunters but also in periods of prohibition, for the protection of sensitive species and against sinister crime phenomena. poaching which are not to be charged to the hunters. We are ready for confrontation, collaboration and sacrifices in the common interest of protecting our environment "(Il Gazzettino).
