“Il Poggiolo” is a hunting farm that reflects the courage of those who believed in the potential of the once completely abandoned territory. Today it is possible to stay in this company and go hunting, which was unthinkable until 1989.
Azienda Agrituristica il Poggiolo (province of Ravenna) is immersed in the Sintria Valley, extending between two Apennine ridges, the Casola Valsenio to the east and the Brisighella to the west, at 410 meters above sea level. The importance of the Sintria Valley dates back to 1300, when it was disputed for its wealth of woods, whose timber was used for the construction of wagons, heavy weapons, boats and for domestic heating.
The small Sintria Valley knew various "owners", such as the Papacy, the Medici family of Florence, the Municipalities of Brisighella and Casola Valsenio, each of which built various buildings such as small castles, watchtowers and defense towers. During this period the Torre del Poggiolo was erected, symbol of the valley. Over the centuries, the Sintria Valley lost its strategic importance, to the point that all the fortifications built up until then fell into disrepair or were transformed into houses. At the end of the 1800s, the Poggiolo definitively lost its importance, becoming a farmhouse to house peasant families.
1960 is the year of the definitive abandonment, because the farm was no longer considered profitable, but in 1990 the redevelopment of the territory began by a group of friends, lovers of nature and rurality, the qauli wanted to bet on the potential of this valley.
The Poggiolo, in fact, until 1989 was a semi-deserted area, made up of some dilapidated buildings, located in a basin surrounded by mountains and woods and crossed by the Sintria stream near Valdifusa. Due to these conditions and access difficulties, the area was practically unknown while retaining a certain interest from a naturalistic point of view. The redevelopment of the woods and chestnut groves was started, bringing electricity and telephone. In parallel, the viability on the access road was restored, determining the end of the isolation of the valley. Through the establishment of an agricultural cooperative for the management of the territory (about 1000 hectares) the old buildings were renovated, making them suitable for tourism.
After a complete renovation, since 1991 the Poggiolo has returned to life as a farm, able to accommodate tourists and, of course, hunters. In fact, the latter have the opportunity to experience very profitable hunting days in 919 hectares of territory, in which wild game survives. The collection of all game is subjected to various preventive killing programs, which are subject to the approval of the competent public body, in order to preserve an environment that with great effort has rediscovered its ancient splendor.
Specifically, the game that can be hunted in the territory of the Poggiolo Agritourism are:

An example, therefore, that can teach a lot and that can be repeated in other geographic areas of our country, starting the redevelopment plans of the territory with the aim of reviving nature.
