In Liguria there is still a problem with wild boars that lately come closer and closer to inhabited centers until they enter and cause many problems.
In recent days, a herd of wild boars has entered the town of Alassio, a seaside town in western Liguria, creating road accidents and damage to orchards and gardens.
Following numerous reports on the issue by citizens, who exasperatedly asked for the intervention of the institutions, the Province of Savona was forced to organize a wild boar hunt among the houses of Alassio which ended with the killing of six ungulates.
According to what was stated by the provincial councilor Paolo Ripamonti, the six wild boars killed were only part of a larger herd which will however be monitored and the necessary measures will be taken to prevent other specimens from trespassing again into the inhabited center.
Councilor Ripamonti explained, "The intervention saw the direct involvement of agents on the territory in collaboration with the local boar hunting team which, unable to carry out the normal hunting trip in an area consisting of houses and roads, has carried out in complete safety, preventive actions in the least inconvenient way possible for the residents ".
The operation also had the purpose of avoiding the encroachment of the herd towards the center of Alassio thanks to the direct activity of the Police Forces on the roads. Ripamonti continues, "More and more frequently herds or single wild boars are pushed close to the inhabited areas of the cities, numerous in this sense are the reports received by the institution every day".
Finally concludes the commissioner "The Province is therefore evaluating the possibility of preparing more timely and flexible interventions to contain damage to crops, mitigate the apprehension of citizens for the difficult coexistence with these animals and avoid predictable road accidents".
