Regulatory changes
In recent weeks there has been a lot of talk about changing the hunting law, the 157 of the 1992. Federcaccia Lombardia, through the words of its President Lorenzo Bertacchi, highlights what this change is actually about, concerning wildlife control operations even at the gates of the city. "The new regulatory change will allow the Provincial Police to involve hunters as support personnel in wildlife control interventions and does nothing but take note of the sentence of the constitutional court which for two years has already recognized the full legitimacy (and indeed the 'public utility) of the use of hunters trained in fauna control - comments the President of Federcaccia Lombardia Lorenzo Bertacchi. As has already been foreseen for 30 years, the control interventions do not constitute hunting activities and can also be carried out in areas prohibited for hunting, because they are close to inhabited centers or because they are destined to prohibit hunting.
No gift to the hunting world
The rule does not concern hunting, but the management of fauna. Moreover, the amendment does nothing more than provide by law what the Constitutional Court established with sentence no. 6 of 20 January 2021.“ The animal-environmental world now wants to send an appeal to the European Union, perhaps unaware that the inspectors who arrived in Genoa last year for the African swine fever emergency were horrified when they saw wild boars roaming the public roads and rummaging in dumpsters without anyone doing anything. “Please note that this modification is not a gift to the hunting world, but it is a choice made in the general public interest. In a serious country, the media would have correctly explained the law to citizens and would have mocked the various more or less animal welfare associations.
Balance problems
Don't talk about gifts to hunters: hunters have no interest in shooting between houses. Rather, the reactions of environmentalists and a large part of the information show that in Italy environmentalism is for the living room, and ignores the problems of balancing ecosystems; in general there is the utmost disregard for public safety, road and health problems related to wildlife”. “Almost all the newspapers sounded the trumpets of our animalism, speaking of 'wild hunting', of 'far west', presenting the law as if it allowed anyone who spots a wild boar in the city to fire in the midst of the people.
Control plans and ISPRA
The regulation, on the other hand, clearly establishes that the Regions must approve control plans with the opinion of ISPRA and that the interventions are coordinated by the Regional and Provincial Police bodies: therefore it is unthinkable that autonomous interventions have been authorized and legitimized by anyone, hunter or less." "Rather, the distorted news disseminated by the media could make someone believe they are entitled to kill wild boars on sight and they have certainly created a useless and unfounded social alarm: I hope that issues such as the pandemic, war and politics international law are treated more objectively and with due preparation" (source: FIDC Lombardia).
