In the last consultation sessions, the hunting associations have highlighted how the excessive presence of wild boar it is certainly a consequence of protected areas now widespread especially in extremely inaccessible and wooded areas. In this worrying and almost out of control picture there is a new chapter of the Wildlife-Hunting Plan, which exacerbates this situation extremely by accentuating the line of "protecting", among other things for no reason, new and widespread areas. What are we talking about? Obviously the establishment of the three new mountain passes. Why do we argue that this is without reason? First of all because the new passes, like some pre-existing ones, do not have the quality and characteristics of the real pearls that were established at the time. to safeguard the areas where the most valuable birds could pass. Secondly, because these migratory species can no longer be endangered by hunting, which since the XNUMXs has suffered a continuous decline that touches the 5% per year.
What does this wrong provision consist of? In practice, taking as reference a place of particular interest in the migratory routes of birds, it is decided to establish a "mountain pass" which, in fact, immediately becomes a protected area, the center of a circle with a radius of one kilometer on the plan of Umbria. All this happens, unfortunately, with the support of the Wildlife-Hunting Plan which, being very complex, hides quibbles that can be used to score low blows of this kind.
Perhaps those who do not frequent nature sufficiently, or are not familiar enough with maps and plans, might miss the fact that, as the crow flies, the radius of one kilometer covers an extensive forest of gullies, more or less impenetrable woods and caves created by erosion and landslides. All this obviously constituting not only an impediment to hunting wild boar but laying the foundations for a strong fermentation of the entire area because the hunters, although detested and hated, are, as everyone knows, tireless managers of the territory which they are allowed to hunt. They are responsible for the maintenance of paths and shelters, also made, obviously, to improve hunting practice. Finally, there is an incontrovertible fact of our region to be specified: we do not have a mountain range that extends longitudinally and with imposing peaks like the Alps, but only a modest main chain consisting of the Apennines and the reliefs west of the Tiber.
Both chains extend from north to south, considered close to the migration lines although the real routes, in reality, are a bit transversal, probably to exploit the earth's rotation axis. This idea led to the establishment of three crossings in a longitudinal line on the localities of Bocca Trabaria, Fossato di Vico and Passo della Carosina, however, well below a thousand meters above sea level. We invite everyone to visit these passes, in such a way as to realize the little naturalistic interest they hold. Obviously, for us hunters these are wonderful areas: but for those used to parks and breathtaking views they have very little exciting.
However, thanks to the quirk of mountain passes - tools designed 40 years ago to protect migratory fauna which, we reiterate, no longer run any danger - three important circles of protection for wild boars. Protected areas which, among other things, being as mentioned at relatively low altitudes are exceptional for the wintering and reproduction of this mammal. The writing Umbrian hunting associations agree that the establishment of the three new passes is an anachronistic and against today's scheduled hunt. An act that, moreover, is not reflected in the neighboring Regions of Marche and Tuscany, which have not considered the pass, with the result that on the part of the entry of migratory birds there will still be hunters (Federcaccia, Free Hunt, Enalcaccia, Arci Caccia, ANUUMigratorists e CPA).
