What he carried out in long years of work with dedication and seriousness was judged by the Italian Federation of Hunting as an example to follow and a point of reference for those who have a role that, as he lived, assumes the sense of a civil commitment. To him then, during his 60a Assembly, the Italian Federation of Hunting is proud to award the title of Gentleman Hunter for 2020. After teaching natural sciences in high schools for five years, in 1982 Aukenthaler assumed the position of director of the ACAA - Association of Hunters South Tyrol, federated of the Federcaccia, which he held until retirement after 37 years, while maintaining fruitful relations with the Association and some of the assignments previously assigned to him.
He was for a long time, and in part still is, an active member in numerous commissions, from the hunting exam to the game warden exam, in the sampling plan commission, in the scientific observatory, in the advisory committee of the Provincial Museum of Uses and Customs of Teodone / Brunico, as well as in various international hunting organizations, he teaches semester courses for aspiring hunting agents and refresher courses for active hunting agents. Thanks also to his tenacity and his assiduous work of confrontation with political representatives, the hunting periods in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano in 1996 were included in the Provincial law, thus closing the long season of continuous recourse to the hunting calendar by environmental and anti-hunting associations.
In his tireless activity as a popularizer and trainer for everything concerning the world of hunting, he often participates in televised debates and public meetings and is the author and co-author of numerous publications and manuals. Besides hunting, his passions also include ornithology and music, especially the guitar, and gave his decisive input for the sound of the hunting horn to be declared a UNESCO heritage site.
